Online gambling is coming to Turtle Creek Casino and Hotel in 2021 thanks to legislation passed by the Michigan state government in late 1999. The governor signed a new law allowing sports betting and online gaming in the state for the first time.
Retail sports betting is now available at many casinos in the state as of March 2020. Turtle Creek Casino will start offering its retail sports betting in early fall 2020 through William Hill Sports Book. William Hill also offers online sports betting, so it will also provide online sports betting for both casinos owned by the Grand Traverse Band next year.
It’s not yet known what plans the Grand Traverse Band has for other online gambling options when they become legal in 2021.
The Turtle Creek Casino first opened in 1996, as the second casino owned by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. The first being the Leelanau Sands Casino opened in 1984 in defiance of Michigan’s restriction against casino gaming. Turtle Creek Casino came about two years after the Grand Traverse Band reached a compact with Michigan finally granting them the legal right to operate casinos on reservation land.
The original casino had no hotel, so visitors were limited to day trips or had to stay at nearby accommodations, such as the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa also owned by the Grand Traverse Band.
In 2008, the tribe invested in a new casino and resort on the same land. The lavish $116 million project was carried out while the original Turtle Creek casino remained open. A very modern building, the new casino features a silver metal exterior that rises slowly out of the ground in front of the six-story hotel. Outdoor lights shine on the building in an ever-changing multi-color night-time display, while a water feature creates a park-like feeling that invites guests to linger before heading into the building.
Inside, the casino offers a massive gaming area with multi-story lounges overlooking the floor. There is also a non-smoking poker room and lounge, as well as, conference areas, 137-room hotel, three bars, and dining. Guests can sit down to an excellent steak in a fine dining restaurant called, Bourbons 72, eat as much as possible in the buffet called, Seasons, or grab a quick bite at The Deli before heading back to the gaming floor.
Players can also earn points useful for comps, discounts, and free entries into promotions using the Players Club card. This free rewards program allows players to earn points at both Turtle Creek Casino and Leelanau Sands Casino.
The program features a five-tier system that players progress through as they earn more points. Players will get a new card for each tier they reach, so be sure to visit the front desk to pick them up. The tiers and bonuses are as follows:
